  • Since 1938, Mexican federal laws and regulations have entrusted PEMEX (Petróleos Mexicanos) with the central planning and management of Mexico's petroleum industry. Cangrejera Poly Ethylene Plant is part of the growing Mexican Petrochemical industry and is operated by Pemex.
  • World demands for Poly Ethylene continue to increase and the plant is being heavily invested and upgraded to capture market share.

    The Project:
  • This project has been approximately 20 months in gestation. The equipment offered (Stirrer motors) is unique in several respects and owes its heritage to a co-operation back in the early 1960's between the then ICI chemical division and Mather & Platt Machinery Co.
  • The process development lasted several years, with many early failures as a direct result of the hostile environment in which these machines were being asked to operate. With extreme perseverance from both parties the reliability record was improved until finally the finished product (Stirrer motor) was derived.
  • This gave the Ethylene plants a machine which could safely operate at a pressure of about 300bar with ethylene gas being directly injected through the top motor bearing across the stator rotor pack and finally into the reactor via the motor bottom bearing.

Services Provided:

  • Until recently, most motors operated with a failure time of approximately 3 months and most often resulted in complete catastrophic failure. Significant down-time and disruption were caused to the process, which led CldeUnion Pumps to upgrade the machine and increase time between overhaul or failure to several years.
  • This new design has become the industry standard and resulted in several hundred sales of these machines throughout the world. Our clients now benefit from extended life-span of equipment and minimal disruption to service at a time when continued production is critical.
