Alcudia II is a small coal fired thermal power station, generating 78 mw on the island of Majorca. Units under investigation were Clyde SBWM 380 X 3 stage borehole pumps, located within the auxiliary cooling water systems.
The Project: Customer required confirmation that ClydeUnion Pumps; the OEM, could achieve increased flow, with the same head, utilising maximum diameter impellers, with a solution to a cavitation problem. This formed the basis for our technical evaluation and case study. With these parameters our engineering team undertook a study of the complete system, thereafter providing their recommendations to the customer. Unique capabilities offered by ClydeUnion Pumps, included material up grade to super duplex, with prolonged life expectancy, hydraulic enhancement, which provided the customers new flow and head requirements. Through innovative, specialist engineering, a reduction in the cavitation issue was achieved, ensuring maximum life-span of equipment.
